Microfibers
Microfibers are very small fibers that are great for filtration, wipes,
thermal and sound insulation, and for making synthetic suede, leather,
silk, and "peach skin" fabrics. Fiber
Innovation Technology specializes in making bicomponent fibers that
generate microfibers in staple and filament forms, as well as other specialty fibers and filaments.
Microfibers can be made
using bicomponent fibers that split apart from mechanical action like
hydroentangling. Other
microfibers can be made using bicomponent fibers from which one
material is dissolved, leaving the microfibers behind. Because
microfibers are so small, they are also fragile, so it is very difficult
and expensive, if not impossible, to directly spin and process
microfibers. This is why most microfibers come from bicomponent
fibers like those made by Fiber Innovation Technology. Microfibers are among the newest, most exciting
developments in fiber technology. Using our production versatility, we can
make microfiber-generating bicomponent fibers that are customized for your
specific needs.

you can download a paper that describes how many different ways
bicomponent fibers can be made to split into microfibers, as well as some promising applications for these
microfibers. If your specific interest is in filtration, click "microfibers
